Cavium FastLinQ® 25/100GbE Ethernet Adapter Accelerates Telco NFV & Cloud Workloads

Delivers breakthrough performance with Data Plan Development Kit (DPDK)

SAN JOSE, CA – April 3, 2017 – Today, Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of products that enable intelligent and secure processing for enterprise and cloud data centers, announced that its FastLinQ® 45000 Series 25/100Gb Ethernet Adapter technology that delivers a breakthrough performance of up to 200Gbps throughput is completely integrated into Data Plan Development Kit (DPDK). Cavium FastLinQ technology can now host the most demanding Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and cloud workloads while reducing deployment costs.

"Telco and cloud service providers are embracing NFV to fundamentally change the architecture of their networks to obtain greater service agility and reduce costs," said Cliff Grossner, Ph.D., senior research director & advisor for cloud, data center and SDN at IHS Market. "In a recent IHS Market report, 63% of service provider respondents want improved operational efficiencies without sacrificing carrier grade performance and quality. This will drive the need for solutions providing 100Gbps Ethernet high-performance CPU offload for NFV and cloud workloads providing operational efficiencies with reducing deployment costs."[1]

"Cavium FastLinQ cutting-edge NIC technologies and joint innovation with leading NFV and cloud infrastructure partners eliminate the performance barrier associated with realizing and deploying NFV and cloud solutions," said Rajneesh Gaur, Vice President and General Manager, Ethernet Adapter Group, Cavium. "Moreover, this groundbreaking performance combined with the intelligence and offload capabilities of our FastLinQ family of 25/100Gb Ethernet Adapters empowers NFV and cloud platforms to deliver exceptional levels of service and application processing, while offloading packet I/O."

"As Telecom operators are deploying their NFV solutions in production environments, they require reliable carrier grade platforms and infrastructure which have the data packet processing performance necessary to support virtualized network functions (VNF's). HPE continues to invest in our HPE NFV Infrastructure Lab where our team works with leading NIC providers like Cavium to test and optimize our HPE Servers to provide industry leading performance for Telco workloads," said Claus Pedersen, Director, Communication Service Provider Platforms, Data Center Infrastructure Group, Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

"Cloud and telco providers need high performance Ethernet connectivity solutions and innovative designs in order to achieve new levels of scalability, reliability and efficiency as they deploy, manage, and operate services in a virtualized environment," said Sameh Boujelbene, senior director, Dell'Oro Group. "We expect 100Gb Ethernet market to answer some of these challenges and to grow significantly over the next few years and we see Cavium FastLinQ 45000 Series well positioned to benefit from this opportunity."

With up to 200Gbps of Ethernet line rate throughput, the FastLinQ 45000 series 25/100Gb Ethernet Adapters offer an extremely expansive set of features and protocols, delivering the following key benefits for cloud and Telco deployments:
  • Increased Performance and Scalability for NFV and cloud Workloads: Cavium FastLinQ 45000 Series 25/100Gb Ethernet Adapters leverage industry standard technologies combined with impressive small packet performance to deliver enhanced scalability and improved performance. FastLinQ 100GbE Ethernet adapters are optimized for software-defined networking (SDN) and OpenStack deployments to deliver a robust and feature rich high speed networking solution for Telco and Cloud deployments.
  • Improved Server Utilization: Cavium FastLinQ 100GbE solutions provide hardware offloaded protocol processing, which results in a significant reduction of the CPU burden and improves overall server efficiency. Hardware offloads for RDMA, VxLAN, GENEVE and NVGRE optimize performance while reducing the cost of network encapsulation for virtualized workloads and hybrid cloud deployments.
  • Efficient Administration: Cavium technologies, combined with Mirantis® FUEL for OpenStack orchestration and QConvergeConsole® topology maps for OpenStack, allow the seamless integration and accelerated deployment of workloads in Telco and Cloud datacenters.
Available from Cavium, HPE and other leading OEMs, Cavium FastLinQ 45000 Series 25/100GbE adapters are fully integrated into DPDK and shipping in volume now.

Cavium FastLinQ® Ethernet First to Achieve Microsoft Windows Server SDDC Premium Certification

Enables 10/25GbE RDMA NICs for SDN, Storage Spaces Direct and Microsoft Azure Stack

SAN JOSE, CA – March 27, 2017 – Today, Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable secure and intelligent processing for enterprise and cloud data centers, announced that its FastLinQ QL45000 Series of 10/25GbE Ethernet NICs are now certified for Microsoft Windows Server Software Defined Datacenter (SDDC) Premium, the highest category of SDDC certification from Microsoft. Customers can now leverage the full potential of Windows Server 2016 cloud-ready technologies like Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Storage Spaces Direct, as well as Microsoft Azure Stack with Cavium FastLinQ NICs.
“Traditional network infrastructures are rigid and complex, making it time-consuming to deploy workloads that require network changes and increasing the chance for error,” said Frank Berry, founder and senior analyst, IT Brand Pulse. “Organizations can achieve rapid scale and agility when they adopt a software-defined network (SDN) and software-defined storage (SDS) model for deployment and management. Windows Server software-defined datacenter technologies like Storage Spaces Direct backed with certified products enable organizations to look beyond server virtualization to achieve higher efficiency and meet operational and security challenges.”
“Software Defined Networking, Storage Spaces Direct and Microsoft Azure Stack are core to Microsoft’s strategy to deliver a software-defined hybrid cloud infrastructure,” said Ravi Rao, Group Manager, Datacenter and Cloud Networking, Windows Server, Microsoft Corp. “The SDDC Premium certification enables datacenter managers and system integrators deploying Microsoft SDDC technologies to leverage the proven feature set and high-performance capabilities of Cavium Ethernet NICs to build an efficient and reliable hyper-converged datacenter.”
Arun Mittal, Vice President of Engineering, Cavium, said, “Cavium FastLinQ NIC delivers hardware offloads for VxLAN overlays, Virtual Machine Multi-Queue (VMMQ) for Hyper-V Virtual Machines, Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) and Data Center Bridging (DCB) for RDMA, key requirements for SDDC Premium certifications. This achievement further solidifies the key role Cavium FastLinQ NICs play in delivering full software defined capabilities for storage and networking for Windows Server 2016.”
Craig Parker, Head of Integrated Systems Business, EMEAI, Fujitsu, said, “We are fast-tracking the creation of enterprise software-defined datacenters (SDDC) and our PRIMERGY servers form the system bedrock for Microsoft’s cloud-ready Windows Server 2016 solutions. We are working closely with Cavium and Microsoft to bring to customers a scalable and agile platform that guarantees a tested and perfectly synchronized combination of software defined technologies. The Cavium FastLinQ SDDC Premium certification is a significant step in the right direction.”
