Cavium Adds Microsemi’s Storage Solutions to ThunderX® Processor Family

Frankfurt, Germany, June 21, 2016 – Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enables intelligent processing for enterprise, cloud, data center, wired and wireless networking today announced collaboration with Microsemi Corporation, a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, to deliver the HBA 1000 Host Bus Adaptor for Cavium’s ThunderX processor family.

The HBA 1000 Series, part of the Microsemi Smart Storage Solutions Family, provides a robust and stable solution that can handle the toughest system workloads and configurations. It is fully compatible with all existing and future Microsemi HBA, RAID and Expander solutions. Available in five different 12Gb/s configurations with up to 16 internal or 16 external SAS/SATA ports, the HBA 1000 Series offers the highest port count in a low-profile, MD2 form factor and 60 percent less power consumption than competing HBAs.

The ThunderX product family is Cavium’s 64-bit ARMv8-A serverprocessor for next generation data center and cloud applications, and features high performance custom cores, single and dual socket configurations, high memory bandwidth and large memory capacity. The product family also includes integrated hardware accelerators, integrated feature rich high bandwidth network and storage IO, fully virtualized core and IO, and scalable high bandwidth, low latency Ethernet fabric, which affords ThunderX best-in-class performance per dollar and watt. They are fully compliant with ARMv8-A architecture specifications as well as ARM’s SBSA and SBBR standards, and widely supported by industry leading OS, Hypervisor and Software tool and application vendors.

“Microsemi works closely with our ecosystem partners to deliver resilient, efficient and easy-to-use storage connectivity solutions for worldwide data centers,” said Pete Hazen, vice president of Microsemi’s scalable solutions business unit. “Working with the Cavium team, we successfully developed an initial driver for our 12Gb/s SAS HBA 1000 solution that supports the Cavium ARM-based ThunderX server platforms and enables high performance and power efficiency needs for today’s data centers solutions such as the Cavium CloudScale RackTM.”

“Microsemi’s storage solutions are an outstanding complement to the compute performance that ThunderX delivers today,” said Larry Wikelius, Vice President Software Ecosystem and Solutions, Cavium. “This collaboration with Microsemi will provide an even greater choice for system partners and end users as they deploy ThunderX based storage intensive applications into the most demanding data center environments.  Microsemi is a great addition to our ThunderX partner community.”

IDT Collaborates with Cavium to Support Hyperscale Data Centers

IDT's DDR4 Products Deployed in Low-Energy Platform Design for Cavium's ThunderX® Family of Workload-Optimized ARM Processors

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 20, 2016 - Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) (NASDAQ: IDTI) today announced its collaboration with Cavium, Inc., on a reference design that supports the burgeoning workloads of the hyperscale data center.  The IDT® DDR4 memory interface solutions are incorporated into the reference design, which is built on Cavium's ThunderX family of workload-optimized 64-bit ARMv8-based processors.

The Cavium ThunderX® reference design can be used to build energy-efficient server solutions featuring IDT's DDR4 technology. Cavium and its industry partners developed the design to target server solutions for members of the Open Compute Project (OCP) and other hyperscale data center customers.

"IDT's DDR4 technology offering and the company's leadership in the OCP High Performance Computing Project made them the obvious choice to team with," said Rishi Chugh, director, Data Center Processor at Cavium, which similarly has a long history collaborating in the Open Compute community. "Our relationship with IDT enables us to deliver workload-optimized, flexible, scalable and efficient ARM-based server solutions to the data center market, including the growing community of the OCP."

The ThunderX product family is Cavium's server processor for next-generation data center and cloud applications, featuring high-performance custom cores, single- and dual-socket configurations, high memory bandwidth and large memory capacity. The product family also includes integrated hardware accelerators, integrated feature-rich high bandwidth network and storage IO, fully virtualized core and IO, and scalable high bandwidth, low latency Ethernet fabric.

IDT's DDR4 chipset includes register, data buffers and thermal sensors with serial presence detect (SPD). Together, they collectively enable the complete range of unbuffered dual inline memory modules (UDIMMs), registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) and load-reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs) needed to power the next generation of enterprise and data center servers.

"IDT is excited to work with partners like Cavium and industry bodies like the Open Compute Project to demonstrate the compelling value of our DDR4 chipset in hyperscale data centers," said Rami Sethi, vice president and general manager of memory interface products at IDT. "Our solution uniquely enables users to scale memory capacity without compromising data rates in order to maximize workload performance and efficiency."

IDT's DDR4 memory is part of the company's vast portfolio of technologies enabling hyperscale data servers, high-performance computing clusters and enterprise servers. IDT also offers digital power management solutions to optimize overall data center performance and power usage, enabling high-density solutions required for space-constrained servers. IDT provides an extensive high-performance timing portfolio, PCIe retimers, PCIe switches and low-latency RapidIO interconnect to enable analytics workloads in the data center.

The ThunderX reference design is available directly from Cavium.
