Cavium and Microsoft Collaborate to Accelerate Cloud Services with ThunderX2™

SAN JOSE, Calif. March 8, 2017 – Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), announced today that they are collaborating with Microsoft on evaluating and enabling a variety of cloud workloads running on Cavium’s flagship ThunderX2 ARMv8-A Data Center processor for the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

The companies are also demonstrating web services on a version of Windows Server developed for Microsoft’s internal use running cloud services workloads on ThunderX2. The server platform is based on Microsoft’s Project Olympus – Microsoft’s next generation open source hyperscale cloud hardware design.  The demonstrations will be shown at the Open Compute Project (OCP) U.S. Summit in San Jose on March 8 and 9, 2017 and are the result of an extensive long term collaboration between the two companies.
The ThunderX2 product family is Cavium's second generation 64-bit ARMv8-A server processor SoCs for Data Center, Cloud and High Performance Computing applications. The family integrates fully out-of-order high performance custom cores supporting single and dual socket configurations. ThunderX2 is optimized to drive high computational performance delivering outstanding memory bandwidth and memory capacity. The new line of ThunderX2 processors includes multiple workload optimized SKUs for both scale up and scale out applications and is fully compliant with ARMv8-A architecture specifications as well as ARM's SBSA and SBBR standards. It is also widely supported by industry leading OS, Hypervisor and SW tool and application vendors.
Cavium’s hardware platform is fully compliant with Microsoft’s Project Olympus which is one of the most modular and flexible cloud hardware design in the data center industry. The platform integrates two ThunderX2 processors in a dual socket configuration. ThunderX2 SoC integrates a large number of fully out-of-order custom ARMv8-A cores with rich IO connectivity for accommodating a variety of peripherals for Azure, delivering excellent throughput and latency for cloud applications. The platform has been designed in collaboration with a leading server ODM supplier for Microsoft.

Cavium Partners with China Unicom to Showcase M-CORD NFV/5G at Mobile World Congress 2017

ThunderX® ARM V8.1 workload optimized data center server processors and XPliant® SDN fabric for deployment solutions

SAN JOSE, CA, and BARCELONA, SPAIN February 27, 2017 – Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable secure and intelligent processing for enterprise, data center, wired and wireless networking today announced a full implementation of the ON.Lab CORD (Central Office Re-architected as Data center) SDN/NFV platform software stack on its ThunderX ARM based data center COTS server architecture. In addition, the leaf and spine switching integral to CORD is now supported by Cavium’s XPliant programmable SDN switch.

As part of the previously announced collaboration Cavium and China Unicom have worked closely on porting and integrating the entire M-CORD software stack to a single unified hardware architecture optimized for NFV operation and SDN control. The Cavium M-CORD rack is a fully integrated system implementing the full set of features from the edge of the Radio Access Network (RAN) to the ONOS and XOS SDN and orchestration software. It allows for a virtually turn-key operation in any central office for a full NFV C-RAN deployment.  The combination of the ThunderX ARM based data center server processor with the award winning highly programmable XPliant switch provide a compelling platform for M-CORD.

China Unicom and Cavium will work together to trial the system in live locations to optimize the vBBU performance and core network provisioning.

IDT Collaborates with Cavium to Support Hyperscale Data Centers

IDT's DDR4 Products Deployed in Low-Energy Platform Design for Cavium's ThunderX® Family of Workload-Optimized ARM Processors

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 20, 2016 - Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) (NASDAQ: IDTI) today announced its collaboration with Cavium, Inc., on a reference design that supports the burgeoning workloads of the hyperscale data center.  The IDT® DDR4 memory interface solutions are incorporated into the reference design, which is built on Cavium's ThunderX family of workload-optimized 64-bit ARMv8-based processors.

The Cavium ThunderX® reference design can be used to build energy-efficient server solutions featuring IDT's DDR4 technology. Cavium and its industry partners developed the design to target server solutions for members of the Open Compute Project (OCP) and other hyperscale data center customers.

The ThunderX product family is Cavium's server processor for next-generation data center and cloud applications, featuring high-performance custom cores, single- and dual-socket configurations, high memory bandwidth and large memory capacity. The product family also includes integrated hardware accelerators, integrated feature-rich high bandwidth network and storage IO, fully virtualized core and IO, and scalable high bandwidth, low latency Ethernet fabric.

IDT's DDR4 chipset includes register, data buffers and thermal sensors with serial presence detect (SPD). Together, they collectively enable the complete range of unbuffered dual inline memory modules (UDIMMs), registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) and load-reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs) needed to power the next generation of enterprise and data center servers.
