Cavium to Showcase M-CORD NFV/5G on ARM with Leaf and Spine SDN Fabric at Mobile World Congress Americas 2017

Cavium™ expands China Unicom partnership to include Edge Services

SAN JOSE and SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 11, 2017 – Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for enterprise, data center, wired and wireless networking today announced a fully integrated CORD (Central Office Re-architected as Data center) SDN/NFV platform software stack on its ThunderX® ARM®-based data center COTS server architecture including a full leaf and spine SDN fabric on its XPliant® programmable SDN switches. The CORD platform with seamlessly integrated SDN fabric is showcased in a multi-rack configuration running M-CORD Virtualized Mobile Infrastructure and Edge Services at MWC Americas, at the Open Network Foundation’s stand N.332 at Moscone Center Hall North from September 12-14, 2017.

This M-CORD SDN/NFV software platform scaling across multiple data center racks is fully integrated with virtualized and disaggregated mobile infrastructure elements from the edge of the Radio Access Network (RAN) to distributed mobile core, and ONOS SDN and XOS orchestration software. It enables a virtually turn-key operation in a central office or edge data center for testing out NFV, 5G and C-RAN new technology concepts like intelligent front-haul and network slicing. This is a complete Cavium powered SDN/NFV/C-RAN end to end solution combining the OCTEON Fusion-M baseband radio head processors with the ThunderX ARM-based COTS servers and the award winning programmable XPliant Ethernet leaf and spine SDN switches. In keeping with industry trends the front-haul options follow the emerging 3GPP next generation standards.

China Unicom and Cavium have been collaborating on M-CORD and C-RAN projects, utilizing this integrated platform. The addition of Edge Services and full leaf and spine support further enhances the value proposition and eases 5G deployment.

“A fully integrated SDN/NFV data center solution with programmable SDN fabric and workload optimized servers for NFV and C-RAN functions enables implementation of innovative 5G and Edge Computing capabilities and running live traffic for analysis,” said Raj Singh, Vice President & General Manager of the Network & Communication Group at Cavium. “This differentiated and highly scalable implementation of M-CORD platform, using Cavium silicon-based white box servers, switches and remote radio units, provides a 3GPP-compliant virtualized mobile infrastructure with full programmability and flexibility for next-generation network topologies.”

“Programmable SDN fabric enables a new dimension of flexibility in high-performance protocol processing with the ability to implement new protocols and analytics without hardware change,” said Eric Hayes, Vice President & General Manager of the Switching Platform Group at Cavium. “The XPliant Ethernet switch families deliver state-of-the-art throughput and exceptional programmability for data center networks.”

“Our collaboration with Cavium is progressing well and the ThunderX and XPliant-based M-CORD is an effective platform for testing out and analyzing new 5G capabilities,” said Dr. Tang Xiongyan, CTO of Network Technology Research Institute, China Unicom. “We believe that our partnership will provide significant benefits to both parties.”

“M-CORD provides an effective reference platform for showcasing and analyzing new technologies and features for next generation virtualized and SDN enabled mobile infrastructure and edge datacenters,” said Dr. Guru Parulkar, Exec Director of ONF and ON.Lab. “Cavium has been contributing to the M-CORD community since the very beginning. This Cavium silicon powered multi-rack M-CORD implementation with ThunderX ARM based COTS servers and XPliant based white box switches showcases a rich interoperable CORD eco-system well supported by a diversified set of COTS hardware.”

Cavium QLogic Adds PowerShell Integrated Management Solution for FastLinQ™ Ethernet Adapters

Simplify and Streamline Management to Reduce TCO with QConvergeConsole® PowerKit

SAN JOSE, CA – Oct. 27, 2016 – Today, Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for Enterprise, Telco, MSP and cloud data centers, announced the addition of a highly scalable and PowerShell integrated management solution to its broad offering of FastLinQ Ethernet adapter management solutions. The QLogic ConvergeConsole(QCC) PowerKit seamlessly integrates with Microsoft PowerShell to deliver an integrated, scriptable and scalable solution for deploying and managing QLogic FastLinQ series of 10/25/40/50/100GbE NICs across heterogeneous platforms. QLogic FastLinQ Ethernet-based technology is highly extensible and flexible, delivering a broad set of capabilities customized to address the needs of the telco, enterprise, managed service provider (MSP), cloud and storage markets. The ability to streamline their administration through centralized cross-platform and cross-protocol capabilities enhances network availability and reduces management costs.

Infrastructure Management Challenges in Enterprise Datacenters
IT administrators face many challenges and responsibilities when it comes to maintaining the server and network infrastructure and keeping downtime at a minimum, especially in large hybrid, Telco and Cloud deployments. Depending upon the size of the organization there are many components to keep track of, such as device management, updates, patching, new application configurations, compliance requirements, and issues that arise as the result of human error or environmental factors. Conventional approaches do not deliver centralized control and integration with Operating System infrastructure and processes, or require a steep learning curve of vendor specific syntaxes, increasing the cost and complexity of management and creating silos of management toolchains.
Integration and Automation Aware Approaches reduce TCO
In its fifth generation, Microsoft PowerShell delivers an integrated, robust and scalable task automation and configuration management framework for cross-platform server infrastructure management. QLogic ConvergeConsole PowerKit, which is now generally available, seamlessly integrates into Microsoft PowerShell to deliver a consistent and powerful set of new capabilities directly into PowerShell. This enables management efficiencies, improves time to deploy and implements best practices when managing QLogic FastLinQ 10/25/40/50/100GbE Ethernet adapters. IT administrators no longer need to learn a new scripting language or vendor specific syntaxes.
"We designed our FastLinQ Ethernet-based products to address the rapidly changing needs of the data center and the specific needs of mega data centers run by telecommunications providers, MSPs and enterprise private clouds," said Rajneesh Gaur, general manager and vice president of Ethernet Adapter Group, Cavium. "The latest innovation from Cavium, the QCC PowerKit, enables our broad base of customers to significantly reduce TCO by delivering an integrated and scalable management solution."
QConvergeConsole PowerKit Advanced Capabilities Include:
  • Comprehensive Management Capabilities – With over 40 unique command-lets, the QCC PowerKit has the ability to manage all the advanced features of the QLogic FastLinQ Ethernet portfolio, including Network Partitioning (NPAR), SR-IOV, RDMA and server boot configurations. The QCC PowerKit enables IT administrators to enhance overall performance and speed troubleshooting with robust diagnostic capabilities.
  • Scalable, Scriptable and Remote Management – The QCC PowerKit has the ability to automate key management tasks for unparalleled efficiency in adapter configuration and management. This increases management efficiency and reduces overall TCO.
  • Cross Platform and Integrated – The QCC PowerKit can be deployed across a heterogeneous datacenter environment due to its broad operating system support. Support for various Windows and Linux versions ensures seamless integration and operation for enterprise, Telco and Cloud network environments.
